Stephen Smart is a NYC-based USA829 lighting designer. His designs have been seen on stages such as New York City Center, Forestburgh Playhouse, IRT Theatre, and Jersey City Theatre Center. Stephen has assisted lighting designers such as Cory Pattak, Ryan O’Gara, Tim Deiling, Paul Miller, and Mitchell Fenton. He has had the pleasure of working with companies such as Paper Mill Playhouse, Alchemation, Teatro Nuovo, Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, Networks Berkshire Theatre Group, and Playmakers Repertory Company. Stephen holds a BFA in Lighting Design and Technology from UNCSA, and in the summer of 2024 he was honored to work as a Hemsley Lighting Intern. When not in a theatre, Stephen can be found hiking, camping, or enjoying a good book.
