Stephen Smart (he/him/his) is a lighting designer based in New York City. His lighting designs have been seen on stages such as New York City Center, Forestburgh Playhouse, IRT Theatre, Jersey City Theatre Center, and UNC School of the Arts. Stephen holds a BFA in Lighting Design and Technology from UNCSA, and in the summer of 2024 he was honored to work as a Hemsley Lighting Intern. Professionally, Stephen has assisted lighting designers such as Ryan O’Gara, Tim Deiling, Paul Miller, Penny Jacobus, and Marcella Barbeau. He has had the pleasure of working with theatre companies such as Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, Teatro Nuovo, Berkshire Theatre Group, Playmakers Repertory Company, and Fletcher Opera Institute. When not in a theatre, Stephen can be found in the woods hiking or camping.
